“Alexis?”
I sighed. “Yes, ok, thank you.”

Two years earlier
The high school was called Elysian Fields High. Not a very imaginative name when you came to think about it really. It was built next to Maori burial grounds, and the name Elysian Fields meant land of the dead in Greek Mythology. By building the school there and naming it that was supposed to show something about promoting national pride. How could naming a school after something Greek show national pride in a Maori country? Some people really didn’t make sense to me.
Lizzie was the only person I knew when I started at Elysian Fields High. I clung to her like a rock for the first two terms until I found my feet and started making friends of my own. Of course I didn’t ever leave Lizzie’s side. If I did, even for a lunch hour, she would accuse me of ditching her and not talk to me for two days. I could remember the first time that happened. It was the last week of school in term two and Julie had invited me to hang with her at lunch time. I walked out of class with Julie and Lizzie wasn’t waiting for me to walk home with her after school.
I smiled as I walked into the Elysian Fields now in my 12th year at school. “Hey Babe, what are ya smiling at?” called Scott walking over. He put his arms around me and dropped a kiss on my lips. “Oh just reminiscing about the past, that’s all,” I replied. His smile widened and a mischievous look crept onto his face. “Saturday night was it?” he asked with a wink. I laughed and shoved his shoulder. “No, just the more distant past.”
Scott was Mr. Tall, Dark and Handsome. He had beautiful dark brown eyes, and black hair. He could sing, and act, and most likely had some other hidden talent. And he was also mine. Sometimes I felt insignificant when in front of him but now I just felt happy.
Joel walked towards us carrying an armful of books. He dumped them in my arms. “Good God!” I exclaimed. “What’s with all the books?”
“Art History internal,” he replied. “Hey mate,” he said turning to Scott “party at mine this Friday night. You there?”
“Wouldn’t miss it”
“Sweet as, spread the word.”  He clapped Scott on the shoulder, picked up his books and walked off to class. Joel was the same height as Scott but a little thinner. A bit on the lanky side too. He was really into his ‘punk’ style clothing and was never seen without his black leather wrist band and band franchise t-shirt even at school. I suppose with his green eyes he was able to get anything he wanted.
I watched him now grab the attention of Lizzie as she walked by. All he had to do was glance at her and she was hooked. I knew she had a thing for him. Had for ages actually and it looked as though the feeling was mutual.

“Come on Alexis, we’re going to be late,” whined Lizzie. Running out the door I grabbed my jersey and yelled out to mum. “I’m going to Joel’s now! See you later!”
“Ok hun,” mum called back from the kitchen. “Don’t be too late! Be good and-”
“-don’t be a dick,” all three of us said unanimously. I shut the door and jumped down the steps. Lizzie linked her arm through mine and we started walking towards the ocean. It was quicker to walk along the road to Joel’s but we preferred taking the longer, scenic route. It was tradition after all. We gossiped as we walked barefoot through the soft sand, warmth still lingering from the day. As we reached the end we walked over the rocks and climbed up to the track. It took us along the ridge of the cliff for a while then twisted around to the park. It ended up behind Joel’s house where we could jump the fence and avoid the dogs in the front yard. Joel insisted they weren’t dangerous but Thunder never did like me and with a name like that I was inclined to stay away.
I jumped easily over the fence first landing on the freshly cut grass and turning around to see what Lizzie was doing. She was rather awkwardly trying to maneuver the climb in a cream colored mini skirt. I laughed as she moved one leg up to the next wire, then the second. She had managed to get her foot over the top and was on the descent when her skirt caught on a loose nail. She twisted trying unsuccessfully to unhook herself. “Here Liz, let me get that,” I said stepping forward. I was too late to help, but just in time to catch her as she fell forward. Her scream was accompanied by an unmistakable ripping sound. From the look on her face I didn’t need to ask what happened. She stood back, covered her behind with her hands and looked at me shocked. I suppressed a laugh with great difficulty. “What am I going to do?” she cried.
“Here,” I said handing her my jersey. “Tie this around your waist until we get inside then we’ll swap clothes.” She didn’t hesitate just took my jersey and hastily tied it around her middle.
“I thought I heard something,” said Scott walking around the corner. “What are you two doing?”
“Nothing!” Lizzie grabbed my arm and pulled me inside. I laughed and waved at Scott as we left him standing outside.
Ten minutes later Lizzie and I emerged from the spare room in new outfits and all fashion disasters avoided. I was wearing jeans and Lizzie’s red halter neck shirt. Lizzie had taken off the mini skirt and replaced it with my dress that doubles as a top. I wear it with jeans as I don’t have the legs to wear it as a dress, fortunately Lizzie does.
I grabbed a KGB off the counter and scanned the room looking for Scott. I couldn’t find him but spotted some temporary entertainment. Rex was sitting on the edge of an armchair talking to a gaggle of young girls all of whom were quite obviously fighting for his affections. I walked over, put my arms around his neck and kissed him on the cheek. “Hey hun,” I purred. The girls shot me a sideways glance and all but ran away. “That wasn’t very nice,” said Rex as I flopped into the chair. “I might have scored some action for the night.” I laughed. “Nah, that brunette. You’ve already been with her sister, and the blonde’s just back for seconds.”
“Really?” Rex squinted in the direction the girls had left in. “Man I would never have known.”
“Just as well you’ve got me then.”
“Hmm. Hey where’s Scott got to?”
“I don’t know. I saw him briefly when I arrived but that was the last time.” Once again I scanned the room and this time saw Joel and Lizzie locked in a very intimate embrace. I nudged Rex and nodded in their direction. “About bloody time.”

A couple of hours later the music was pumping with the Smurf’s cheerleading song. Lizzie and I danced in the middle of the lounge with the other surging bodies. Surrounding me were sweating limbs moving in every other direction pulsating with the beat. The lights were dull and the strobe Joel had hired was flashing at intervals of 40 seconds every 3 minutes. I looked over and noticed someone standing in the crowd unmoving. I grabbed Scott’s hand and pulled his ear down to my mouth. “Who’s that?” I yelled over the music. Scott looked over in the same direction and shook his head. “Who are you talking about?” he yelled back. I pointed. “That guy over there. The one not dancing.” Scott shook his head again. “I don’t know what you mean. There isn’t anyone not dancing.”
“He’s right there. Staring at me.”
“Alexis, are you alright? It’s a bit hot in here. Maybe you need to sit down.”
“I’m fine! Just, oh don’t worry about it!”
Annoyed at Scotts lack of co-operation I tapped Lizzie on the shoulder intending to ask her if she knew who he was. I began to think that Scott was right, at least about the heat. It was starting to get really hot. Sweat dripped down the side of my face and my vision started blurring. I couldn’t make out any faces anymore, just shapes heaving and pushing at me from every side. I could still see the stranger though, standing still against the crowd. Confused I asked “who are you?”
“Koda”
The heat intensified suddenly wrapping around me like a constrictor snake. I fell to the ground unaware of anything now but the unbearable heat and the shapes moving all around me. Morphing and changing, bumping into each other and becoming something else. In the middle of it all Koda stood and smiled. The fire burned. I realized now why I was so hot. It was a fire. The whole house was on fire and we were all going to die. And Koda just stood there smiling at me. The pain was too much. I cried out as the black overcame me.
Yup next part

I put in the last two lines from the first part so you don't get confused :D

Also sorry if this is a bit long, I try not to make the parts too long. But this seemed a good place to leave it

Oh, and I'm sure Mr Williams won't mind me 'borrowing' a place name..... :flirty:
